How long do I boil potatoes for hash browns?

I want to make hash browns. I don't have a potato ricer or even a grater or anything, so I know they're going to come out shitty as it is, but I would like to make sure I at least boil them correctly.

1. You dont need to boil them. If you don't have a grater, you should just dice them up very very small then fry in some hot oil.
2. You dont boil. Slice them as thin as you can and fry!
