  1. dishwasher!
  2. use a sponge and hot soapy water
  3. get a knife and pick out the cheese
  4. Try hot soapy water and a fairly stiff brush
  5. Grate a bar of soap on it and then leave it to soak in hot water
  6. Either use a stiff washing up brush (the kind with the plastic bristles) or simply soak in very hot water and then rub downwards, (with the grain not against it) with your washing up cloth of choice. Hope that helps.
  7. That's a familiar problem! What I do is let it soak in HOT water while I wash the other things. Then I use a scrub brush on it, then a cloth or sponge going in a direction that won't grate. Good luck!
  8. On the rare occassions that I need grated cheese then I buy it grated. Grated cheese is no more expensive because the suppliers make it using off-cuts. It doesn't keep as long. If you do a lot of grating then I would recommend a mandolin slicer/grater. http://www.procook.co.uk/shop/Utensils/Graters,-Slicers,-Cutters-&-Peelers/ProCook%AE-Mandolin-Slicer/d34/sd221?code=1699 Then you just have a small plate to wipe clean. I would use the sponge side of a scouring sponge. You have a lot of control with a small sponge. If the cheese has dried on then you will need to soak it in soapy water for a while first. http://www.capitalcateringsupplies.co.uk/images/spounge_scourer_sh.jpg
  9. Just keep rubbing a soapy sponge on the flat side of the grater, pushing suds through the holes of the grater. Repeat on other side in the direction that won't shred your sponge. That's what I do, seem to work fine. Answer mine?? http://ca.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AsPzzG_hpg776m7SgJ5hBXHAFQx.;_ylv=3?qid=20081129103115AAKJCDa
  10. We do ours in the dishwasher, but as you don't have one do you have a powerful shower in the bath! That should do it!
  11. Very, very carefully! The times I've shredded my FINGERS (let alone the flippin' dish cloth!) are beyond counting. You'd've thought I'd've learned how to do it by now, but noooooooo! I HAVE found that hot soapy water and one of those hard 'scrubby' backed pads (with a sponge on the other side) is the best way. I've also learned to clean it straight away before the cheese sets into a solid, totally unremovable mess. If you've done that (left it too late!), soak it in hot, HOT water with a ton of Fairy liquid (or whatever brand you use) and make sure you keep the water hot (don't let it get cold before you try to shift the cheese, it'll just set all over again - this is the voice of experience speaking!). I wish you luck! xxxx
  12. If all else fails use and old tooth brush
  13. I use really hot soapy water and scrub it with a washing up brush. Always works for me. I also wash it as soon as possible so that the grated cheese doesn't have time to go hard and stick properly to the grater.
  14. Hot soapy water and a bottle brush.
