Can you substitute mozzarella cheese for parmesan cheese in alfredo sauce?

i only have a littleeee bit of parmesan cheese left but like half a cup of mozzarella. why won't it work? why won't it work? ohh ok. yeah i figured that but i found this recipe for alfredo sauce online that included mozzarella cheese.

  1. It won't work. Just put as much parm as you have in and skip the rest. You will at least have a very flavorful cream sauce that will be good. Mozzarella will not melt properly in your sauce. It won't work because mozzarella does not have the same melting characteristics as parm. --edit-- If you found a recipe then go ahead and try it. Good luck with it, I hope it works for you.
  2. it won't work because the mozzarella will become gummy and it won't combine with the sauce like parmesan cheese would
  3. Parmesan is an aged hard cheese and mozzarella is a fresh unaged soft cheese. Totally different beasts.
  4. Parm will melt & get creamy, moz will be stringy & gooey. You can use Romano or other hard cheese.
