Where to order a large drum of Parmesan cheese?
I consume a lot of Parmesan Cheese. I like the solid wedges that are not processed, and I grate them. It is very expensive in retail, at about $8/pound. I don't know why it should be so expensive, given that it is made in huge drums in great quantities. Is there a place where I can order a large block (10 lbs or more) at a price closer to $4/pound?

- Whole Foods may be able to help you.
- Parmesan, especially Reggiano, is expensive cus its high quality imported cheese. Its not like Velveeta, where the more you buy, the more you save. $8 is considered a very good price ($12 is the average). so, i doubt you'll ever find REAL parmesan for $4. (maybe a parmesan/romano "blend"). However, i would try to find an italian market near you or, simply go to your local grocer and speak to the manager. tell them you want to buy a big wheel. maybe they'll help you out on the price. i could refer you upscale italian websites, but none sell anything for $4 a pound and you would have to pay for shipping, which would definitely be expensive for a big heavy wheel.
