What is a substitute for Parmesan cheese?
I hate Parmesan. To be honest, I don't like any kind of cheese. I have a recipe that calls for a sprinkling of Parmesan before cooking. Of course, I can just leave it out, but does anyone have a flavourful suggestion for something I can substitute. Thanks

- Mustard!
- My initial reaction would be to suggest another cheese but since you say you don't like cheese ... hard to say without knowing what you're making but how about something like sesame seeds seasoned with garlic and onion powder?
- It depends on the recipe, I would say to leave it out, just because its a sprinkling of Parmesan cheese, there wouldn't be that much of a difference.
- It really depends on what kind of recipe it is, if you let us know what the recipe is, we would be able to give you better suggestions
- Praps some kind of herb on top. Which one you would use would depend on what you are cooking of course...
- Usually, we add cheese to make the dish salty. So I'd say you can substitute it with more salt and pepper. Plus a bit of garlic powder.
- 50g (1 oz) (8fl oz, 1 cup) nutritional yeast flakes 75g (3oz) (4fl oz, 1/2 cup) raw almonds, blanched and peeled 1/2 tsp salt 1. To blanch and peel the almonds yourself, soak them in boiling water for 5 minutes; the skins should then pop off easily. Pat them dry in a tea-towel. 2. Place all ingredients in a food processor or blender, and reduce to a fine powder. This may take some time, but even my hand blender can finally manage it. 3. Store in the fridge and use as Parmesan cheese.
