Ripped jeans and cheese graters?

I've read that you can make really cool ripped jeans just by using a cheese grater on them. Does that really work? And does it ruin the cheese grater??

3. It definitely works. Hold the cheese grater steady and rub the jeans against the grater for the best effect. It won't ruin the grater just watch out for your hands. Another good way to rip jeans is rubbing them across the street and tossing them in the wash afterwards.
