How long is fresh Parmesan cheese good for?

My mom bought a small brick of fresh Parmesan cheese and we used part of it and the rest we put in a Tupperware container and in the fridge. She keeps telling me to use it up before it goes bad. On the other hand, my friend said it will last a long time. Does anybody know how long it's good for?

1. I wouldn't keep it in plastic containter, it will make the cheese sweat, better to wrap in greasproof paper and then into a self seal plastic bag, but be sure to squeese the air out of it before you seal it, I have found this the best way to keep cheese for a period of time good luck
2. you actually freeze it and bring it out when want. then freeze. look on the pack, i was surprised cause i used to waste so much and buy new
3. I have also been told that you can take cheesecloth and saturate it with white vinegar, then wrap the cheese in the cheesecloth and insert it into a plastic bag. But I do know that Parmesan will hold up real good, much better than most other cheeses.
