How do you distress jeans with a cheese grater ?

i want to rip/distress my jeans at home... i want to know how to do it with a cheese grater .. and if people can tell me other ways how to make them distressed please !

1. Cheese graters do work but they more often than not completely shred, which may be the look you're going for. I use a power sander set on a low setting to run over the jeans to distress them, by thinning out the denim, creating fraying, fading the color, and creating holes. Cheese graters take longer and you have less control.
