Why does Kraft parmesan cheese taste the way it does?

I absolutely love Kraft parmesan cheese (the one that comes in the green plastic container) but can't figure out why it tastes so much different than other grated and dried parmesans on the market. Every other brand seems to have a dry taste to it and lack the burst of flavour that Kraft parmesan has. Can anyone explain?

  1. Probably MSG -- check the label. Have you ever had real aged Parmigiano? You'll never touch that green can again. You can get a pretty decent aged Parmigiano at Costco. I also like their Romano cheese (peccarino romano), which is made from sheep's milk.
