What are those funky holes on cheese graters for?
You know, those ones that look kinda like someone punched a hole in the grater with a nail from the inside out? They're on pretty much every box grater I've ever seen. What the heck do you use them for? I tried cheese once. Obviously that wasn't it. That just made a huge mess. I imagine other things would to.

- you grate oranges lemons or limes to make the zest for some recipies
- Great question. I never knew what they were for either.
- Grating hard, dry cheese like parmesan. You can do citrus zest but whatever you do it makes a huge mess.
- It's a Zester Some recipes call for zest of orange/lime/lemon (any citrus fruit) You scrape the outer skin of the citrus fruit along that grater surface, and collect the zest for the recipe.
