How much Parmesan and Romano cheese should I buy to get 1/2 cup grated?
I need to end up with 1/2 a cup of both parmesan and romano cheeses for an alfredo sauce recipe, and I've never grated cheese before, so I don't know how much of the cheese I should buy. Also, is the 1/2 cup packed or just as it comes out of the grater?

- You wont need that much, a half block would be enough, if not too much (a block being the size of cheese that comes prepackaged, like Kraft) and its as it comes out of the grater, but you can be pretty liberal with cheese, if you get too much, it only makes it better.
- I would buy 5 oz of each. After grating, I would not pack it unless the recipe says to do so. Although, you will need only about 4 oz of each cheese, but you will want some to put on top too. (at least I would...yummy!)
- 4 ounces for 1/2 cup. Why not just buy the already grated cheeses? They are so much easier than trying to grate it yourself... especially if you have never done this before. Good luck with your sauce... sounds delicious!
